The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development requires all entitlement communities, including East Lansing, to certify that they affirmatively further fair housing. Certification includes conducting an analysis of impediments, taking appropriate actions to overcome the effects of any impediments and maintaining records reflecting the analysis and actions taken.
Staff worked with a consultant to collect and analyze demographic, economic, transportation, and housing data, housing discrimination complaints and conducted community workshops and phone interviews to gather citizen’s opinions on fair housing choice in East Lansing.
