The East Lansing Police Department is actively recruiting officers to serve the East Lansing community. Police officers have the responsibility of safeguarding human lives, protecting property and the preservation of peace and order in the City. Officers must be committed to protect and serve with fairness, through partnerships that improve the quality of life in the East Lansing community. 

Additional details and benefits of the position are provided below: 

  • Starting pay of $55,223
  • Rotating 12-hour shifts, 14 days a month. Officers pick their days off (preference to seniority and department need)
  • Education reimbursement
  • Equipment is provided
  • Health care
  • Retirement (employees don't pay into their retirement)
    • Officers must work until they are 55 years old and have 25 years of service to the City to receive a full retirement pension.

  • Community Engagement Officer
  • Downtown Engagement Officer
  • Field Training Officer
  • K-9 Officer
  • Detective
  • Violent Crimes Initiative Officer
  • Bicycle Officer
