The Friends of the East Lansing Seniors program was established in 1998 as a non-profit charitable trust fund. The Friends program is a 501(c)(3) organization and is registered with the Michigan Attorney General as a charitable trust. Board members volunteer their time, so administrative costs are minimal and donation dollars stretch farther.
The Friends provide funds to supplement Prime Time’s annual budget and oversee a long-term investment portfolio to help ensure Prime Time’s future financial security. A minimum of 5 percent of the fund balance goes directly to the Prime Time program on an annual basis. In addition, Friends provides special purpose grants. From 2011 through 2018, special purpose grants have included:
$7,000 for completion of the Art Studio
$10,000 toward the salary of an office assistant
$16,000 for printing the Prime Time Newsletter
$7,000 for the Artist’s Alley project
$4,000 for a new copy machine in the Prime Time office
Thanks to the many donors who contributed through the Friends annual fundraising drive. Due to space limitations in this year’s Prime Time Newsletter, the 220 contributors to the Friends in 2018 are gratefully acknowledged here.
The Friends of the East Lansing Seniors' Program board meetings are generally held at 10 a.m. on the second Thursday of alternate months in the Prime Time conference room, 819 Abbot Road. The remaining 2019 meeting schedule is:
July 25, 2019 - 11:30 a.m.; Grand Traverse Pie Company in East Lansing (luncheon meeting)
September 12, 2019 (following annual meeting)

The Friends of the East Lansing Seniors' Program annual meeting provides an opportunity for those who have made a donation during the prior year to provide feedback and make recommendations. The 2019 Annual Meeting will take place on September 12, 2019 at 9 a.m. in the Prime Time conference room. The regularly scheduled board meeting will immediately follow the annual meeting.
