The purpose of the Park, Recreation, Open Space and Greenways Plan is to assess the needs of the community for parks, recreation, open space and greenways, and to identify the actions to be taken to improve and maintain these facilities.
With 11 grants awarded since 1995, the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund (MNRTF) has contributed significantly to the growth and enhancement of the City of East Lansing’s park system.
The Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission reviews parks plans, budgets/fee schedules and bond and makes recommendations to the Planning Commission and/or City Council.
Since the voter approval of the Ingham County Trails and Parks Millage in November 2014, the City of East Lansing has been awarded close to $2 million in millage funds for improvements to the Northern Tier Trail and bridges located along the trail.
