School Resource Officer
East Lansing Police Department
Officer Steve Whelan is the School Resource Officer assigned to East Lansing High
School. He is responsible for many job functions, however, he is assigned to the
high school full time to assist with issues requiring law enforcement intervention.
Officer Whelan has specialized training in counseling and supporting high school students, as well as staff. He is involved in a number of school functions such as attendance at many athletic events. His attendance provides police presence and helps maintain a connection with the students.
Officer Whelan is also trained in instructing the Teaching Educating and Mentoring (TEAM) program and many other programs to assist in the education of East Lansing High School students.
