The City of East Lansing collects live-cut Christmas trees each winter. The trees will be chipped and used as mulch in East Lansing parks or donated to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for use as rabbit habitats. All bags, holiday decorations and tree stands should be removed; trees taller than 6 feet should be cut in half.
There are two options for recycling live-cut Christmas trees:
1) Curbside collection of trees will take place on Monday, Dec. 28, 2015 and Monday, Jan. 4, 2016. Advance phone request and stickers are not required.
UPDATE (1/4/16):The City of East Lansing's curbside collection of live-cut Christmas trees has been extended through Monday, Jan. 11. Residents are encouraged to place their trees at the curb as soon as possible for collection. Due to continuing workloads associated with last week's ice event, crews will not be able to collect all trees at the curb on Monday, Jan. 4. However, they will be out collecting trees throughout the week. Residents can keep their tree at the curb until crews come by for collection.
2) A number of drop-off locations are available through Jan. 8, 2016.
