The Planning, Building & Development Department is responsible for planning and zoning, community and economic development, building permits and inspections, rental licensing and investigations, code enforcement (building, zoning) and historic preservation. The department also assists with university relations and community outreach.
Comprehensive Plan Update
Community members are encouraged to participate in the Comprehensive Plan update, when the public input meetings will resume in early 2017 to gather input on the draft goals and objectives and future land use map. The plan update, which will be referred to as the Bigger Picture, is an important working document that projects land use planning 20 years into the future.
Non-Conforming Use Committee
A Non-Conforming Use Committee has been formed to to make recommendations to the East Lansing City Council as to any ordinance amendments, ordinances or regulations relating to non-conforming rental properties. Learn more.
