Registered voters unable to vote in person at their polling location on Election Day may cast an Absentee Ballot.
How to Request an Absentee Voter Ballot for the August 2, 2016 Primary Election & November 8, 2016 General Election A registered voter may request an Absentee Ballot by completing and mailing the Absentee Voter Ballot Application (PDF) or by appearing in person at the East Lansing City Clerk’s office, 410 Abbot Road.
The City Clerk's office will have special hours on the Saturdays prior to the elections from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. to issue and receive absentee ballots.
The last day to have an an absentee ballot mailed is Saturday, July 30 for the Primary Election and Saturday, Nov. 5 for the General Election. The last day a voter can apply for an absentee ballot and have it issued in person is Monday, Aug. 1 by 4 p.m. for the Primary Election and Monday, Nov. 7 by 4 p.m. for the General Election. All absentee ballots must be returned to the City Clerk's office, not the precinct, by 8 p.m. on Election Day.
How to Return an Absentee Voter Ballot There are two ways to return an absentee voter ballot:
By mail: A voter may mail their ballot to the East Lansing City Clerk’s office. The mailing address is 410 Abbot Road, East Lansing, MI 48823. The postage is 70 cents to return the ballot.
In person: A voter may return their ballot in person to the East Lansing City Clerk's office up to 8 p.m. on Election Day.
